We're very proud of our 12th graders that marched in the annual WHEELS College March! Our 8th-12th grade Advanced Band, along with one of our alumni, put on a great performance at the celebration.

Yesterday WHEELS 5th graders had a great time visiting 3rd-5th graders at Castle Bridge Elementary School! All of the students performed music for each other and improvised with each other. They talked about what it's like to study music, and played "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Sonnymoon for Two," "Swansea Town," Marshmello's "Happier," and an original song.

We're so proud of our 5th graders for performing original music and monologues about human rights at a show last Wednesday!

Thank you to Manhattan School of Music for sending their students to WHEELS to work with our choral and band students! Last Monday we had a choral masterclass at WHEELS, and on Wednesday we had a rhythm section masterclass.

Yesterday the WHEELS Advanced Band (Orquesta WHEELS) performed at the Johnny Pacheco Latin Music and Jazz Festival at Lehman College. Here is a video of the performance (starting at about 1:24).

Last Tuesday WHEELS had the honor of hosting a Save the Music Foundation music showcase! Five bands, including the WHEELS Advanced Band (Orquesta WHEELS), put on a lively concert in the WHEELS auditorium, hosted by Nessa. WHEELS is grateful to the Save the Music Foundation for all their support over many years.

Congratulations to all of the WHEELS National Junior Honor Society and https://www.nhs.us/ members! On November 7 our Intermediate Band performed at the honor society induction ceremony at WHEELS.

Thank you to the Unheard-of//Ensemble for performing for WHEELS students last week! The students especially loved a composition that matched solfege syllables with animals.

Thanks to Harlem Stage WHEELS students got to write songs with the great Maimouna Youssef (aka Mumu Fresh). WHEELS 5th and 6th graders worked with Ms. Youssef at WHEELS on Wednesday, and WHEELS 6th-12th grade band students worked with Ms. Youssef at Harlem Stage on Thursday.

Band students and families enjoyed a celebratory meal together yesterday evening to kick off the 2019-2020 school year!

We're very proud of the six WHEELS students who just completed MSM Summer, a competitive summer music program at Manhattan School of Music. They performed with the Latin band, jazz band, R&B band, chamber groups and choral groups consisting of student and professional musicians from all over the world!

Today one of our high school band students performed at Dizzy's Club as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center's Summer Jazz Workshop!

Congratulations to WHEELS 8th graders and 12th graders for completing one chapter of their lives and moving on to the next four years! Yesterday band students performed at both graduation ceremonies.

On Monday night WHEELS students and Annette Aguilar opened Jazz Power Initiative's production of Nora's Ark. Thank you to Annette Aguilar and Jazz Power founder Eli Yamin for their support of WHEELS music!

Congratulations to our 7th-11th grade band that performed at the Manhattan Borough Arts Festival at the Apollo Theater this evening!

The second annual WHEELS Spring Arts Showcase was last Thursday. The WHEELS community celebrated Pre-K through 12th grade music, movement, and visual art!

Thank you to percussionist Isidro "Boba" Bobadilla for teaching WHEELS 4th graders about music history and how to play percussion instruments like the tambora, guiro, guira, shekere, and conga! Mr. Bobadilla plays with many great bands, including Juan Luis Guerra's band.

WHEELS students and Mr. Johnson were interviewed for the weekly radio program, A Tempo with Rachel Katz.

On Thursday evening WHEELS band students performed at the annual WHEELS Up fundraiser!

Last weekend nine WHEELS students and alumni in grades 7-11 performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Middle School Jazz Academy and High School Jazz Academy bands!

Here is an inspirational video made by Carnegie Hall about WHEELS high school students' song, "Señoritas." It will be performed by the great Toshi Reagon at the Soul Mechanism concert at Carnegie Hall on May 19th!

Thanks to Harlem Stage, WHEELS students and teachers got to see the great Steve Turre and Christian Scott last Thursday night!
